Limestone Fireplace Deep Clean in Brinkworth, Wiltshire
This lovely limestone fireplace is 21 years old! The client unfortunately spilled a large amount of diffuser oil onto the porous stone and it left a large stain.
Despite the limestone fireplace being protected with an impregnating sealer when it was installed, this had inevitably deteriorated over the two decades and didn’t protect against the oily spill.
We began with a thorough deep clean of the stone fireplace. The difference was actually amazing, the fireplace didn’t look all that dirty but once we started to clean an area the difference was huge! The years of soot build-up etc were removed.
Once cleaned a few etched areas were identified and we used a silicon carbide pad to remove the damage and restore the surface.
The oil spill although better with the deep clean was not removed so we moved onto specialist poultice treatments to draw the oil mark out. After a few applications the mark was removed.
The limestone fireplace was then allowed to dry before being protected with a solvent based impregnator that reduces the porosity.
